Join us for the sixth annual
on Friday, Sept. 24
The World Figure Skating Museum is once again participating in Smithsonian
magazine’s Museum Day,
in which
participating museums across the country open their doors for free to anyone
presenting a Museum Day Ticket.
With Museum Day set for Saturday, Sept. 25 and the World Figure Skating Museum
being closed Saturdays, all tickets will be honored Friday, Sept. 24.
On that Friday, the museum staff will offer two complimentary tours, at 11 a.m.
and 2 p.m. No reservation is necessary.
The tour will include the story of the tragedy that happened Feb. 15, 1961, when
all 72 passengers ― including all 18 members of the U.S. World Figure Skating
Team ― on board a flight to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague,
Czechoslovakia, lost their lives in a plane crash, an event that serves as the
inspiration for the upcoming cinematic feature
RISE.
RISE shows how the unfulfilled dreams of those who lost
their lives on Sabena Airlines Flight 548 would be shared – and forever realized
– by the generations of skaters that have followed.
